Funding and incentives

Eligible businesses may be able to access a range of independent, state and federal government funding and incentives. Available funding and incentives may help you offset training or staff recruitment costs. Generally, funding is paid directly to the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to subsidise the cost of training, whereas incentives are paid direct to eligible employers.

Incentives are currently available for employers who recruit Queensland job seekers as part of the Queensland Government's Back to Work initiative. Back to Work incentive payments start from $10,000 for eligible full-time employees.

The Certificate 3 Guarantee helps support eligible students to complete their first post-school certificate III level qualification. Your staff may be eligible to receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a select list of courses.

If your staff are currently working or have experience in the Queensland building and construction industry, they may be able to study courses subsidised by Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ). CSQ funding is paid directly to TAFE Queensland. Your business will be required to contribute towards the remaining course fees. There are a range of different CSQ funding options available.

The Australian Government offers a range of funding and incentives that support vocational education and training. Your business and employees may be eligible to access programs including apprenticeships and traineeships employer incentives, Skills for Education and Employment, trade support loans, and more.

The Higher Level Skills (HLS) program provides a government subsidy to support eligible students to access subsidised training in priority skill sets and selected certificate IV or higher qualifications. If your staff and selected course is eligible, the Queensland Government will pay the HLS subsidy directly to TAFE Queensland. The level of the government subsidy depends on the demand for workers in your industry. 

Designed to assist employers train and upskill their current and future workforce, the Queensland Government provides a range of different vocational education and training funding and incentive programs.

The User Choice 2017-20 program provides a public funding contribution towards the cost of training and assessment services for eligible Queensland apprentices and trainees. The program aims to provide funding aligned to industry skills needs and shortages. There is flexibility for businesses, apprentices and trainees to select a preferred registered training organisation (RTO) from a list of pre-qualified suppliers.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) Student Loans is an Australian Government loan program that helps eligible students pay their tuition fees. If your staff are studying a diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate, or graduate diploma, they may be eligible for a VET Student Loan. If they're studying one of our degree courses, they may be eligible for FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP.

There are payment options available that allow students to pay off course fees in instalments while they are undertaking their studies.
